Meet Rico Love. Grammy-Award winning Songwriter, Producer and Artist. He has penned and produced songs for artists such as Beyonce, Usher, Mario, P.Diddy, Dirty Money, Donnell Jones, and Keri Hilson…just to name a few. At a ripe age of 28 he has already amassed over 70 songwriting and production credits. He has been behind some of your favorite songs over the last several years and his success has yet to reach its peak. After the VMA performance yesterday, I was sold. I only wish I had heard of her prior. It was a bit refreshing to see the MTV open up and allow different and more eclectic artists. Check out her music here.

Skye Edwards is a British singer-songwriter who has been doing music since 1996. She released 2 albums over the last few years and collaborated with several other electronica trip-hop artists. She is often referred to as the “Queen of Trip-Hop”. Check out her music here.

DISASTER MARCHis a powerpop band currently working hard on promoting their new album and have been pushing it with this great idea of having fans create their own videos of them singing their new single, Save Me, Jaime. Meet José González. A Swedish folk singer of Argentine descent. He has this psychedelic soothing sound to his music that would be great for getting through the work week or even while on a car trip to the nearest beach. I came across him over at NPR where they were streaming his entire new album, Fields, due to be released Sept. 14th.

This reggae band formed in 1996 has been doing covers of various popular albums over the years, such as Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Radiohead’s Ok Computer and as of recent The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. They don’t just cover the albums, they flip the sound entirely and do it in a reggae dub-style so the albums take on a whole different eclectic sound. I came across this group while looking up Nomi, who happens to be the lead and singer of this dance trio. Check out their video for the their song, Fun Girl, below and if you want to hear more of their music go here.
I came across Anthony while perusing The Fader and heard this track below called, Thank you for your love, off of his new album, Swanlights. I love the way he sings on the song and the dramatic nature of the record. Imagine a dark moodier version of Boy George. I came across this duo and took a listen specifically to their song, (((((•))))) original natives version by Hiro Kone. This specific song has a psychedelic ethnic dance sound to it that will really have you in a trance. Check out the track above as well as her other music here.
First thing that comes to mind is The Beatles. Definitely a more grungier looking version but the sound and songs remind me of The Beatles, and that accent doesn’t help either. Check out their video for You & Me below and for more of their music go here.
This group was formed in Vancouver in 1996 and since then, has developed their own sound and fan base with about 11 albums under their belt. Their music has been showcased in some of the top fashion houses. They had a sound that made me think of Donna Summers meets David Bowie. I guess it is no surprise from the numerous other posts I have on here that I love practically anything from Sweden and house music. So you know when I saw this video with Swedish House Mafia featuring Pharrell (of the super-producer group, the Neptunes and N.E.R.D.) I had to put it up to share with everyone. Reggae. Drum & Bass. Latin. Dub. All those found in this group’s music. The group is from Barcelona and started initially as a routine jam session between different smaller musical groups and emerged into one collective band consisting of about six members. Brooklyn-based musician, Brian Lindgren, originally from Minnesota, through his various travels collected and sampled various records and music and began to mix and sample spreading it to the masses under the name Mux Mool. I found this English band while surfing online and found this one upbeat pop song of theirs catchy. Plus I played it so many times trying to figure out what the hell they were saying in the hook. *DMV* Maryland based band formed in 2006. They had their first studio album released in 2009 and their second one is slated for a 2011 release. Read more about them here. Check out their music here.
I came across Fang Island and specifically their song Daisy and couldn’t stop listening to it. The song was apparently used on MTV for The Buried Life…clearly I didn’t watch the show otherwise I would have wrote about it much much earlier. They released their self-titled album back in February and have received pretty decent reviews.
