Foals “Miami”

Keeping up with the Miami theme, I came across this video called Miami by a UK pop group called Foals, on Fader that I thought was kinda crazy just because you rarely see anyone use body builders as the main models in their videos…especially transgendered ones and the song on top of that doesn’t really paint this kinda image in your mind but it somehow works. Besides the fact the song is called Miami, it reminded me of how image conscious everyone here is…I mean the damn mannequins have fake implants! There are gyms on just about every corner and everyone is either in impeccable shape or the complete opposite. Anyways, check out the video and check out more of Foals music here.

Elijah & Skilliam

I am currently on a much needed weekend getaway to MIA (out of all times I am here during memorial day weekend. stories to come later!) but that doesn’t mean I am not getting any work done. I wanted to share with you all some music I have come across while relaxing here. This duo is not ambassadors of down-south music or even American music…it’s actually grime music. But the tempo and sound of grime music fits so well with the excitement and heat of this trip so I wanted to share this new find with you guys. Check out the duo’s music here.

2)NIA ANDREWS is a singer-songwriter based out of LA. She is unsigned talent who somehow along the way in her journey to be a writer for Common (rapper yes) and worked with few other artists as well. Check out her music here.

3)JASON YARDE I came across him while surfing online and he is actually done more work for other artists, composing and arranging tracks, but recently he began working on his own music. It’s playful jazz. Take a listen here.

_______________________________________________________________________

4)TWO BANKS OF FOUR is a neo-jazz band from UK. Another group I came across surfing for music. I am fusion-obsessed as of late if you couldn’t tell and their music makes me happy. I think it’ll have same effect on you soooo go check it out here.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

5)EDITORS is British rock band that is apparently signed to The FADER’s label ( I had no clue FADER even had a label). They have the whole 80′s new-wave band sound but more polished modern sound. Check them out here.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

6)TAME IMPALA is a an Australian pop-ish band. They apparently have teamed up with MGMT to go on a tour so you can imagine what type of sound their music has and that it probably will be a show worth catching. Check out the group’s music here.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

7)COLECO is a UK based musician. He has done more producing work over the years but he does have his own personal material. Sounds like a fusion of reggae, hip/hop and electronica with a dab of latin. Definitely interesting music and probably best for the 9-5 grind listening time. Take a listen here for yourself.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

8)FRANCIS AND THE LIGHTS is an unsigned band based out of NYC led by a real Francis and he has quite the voice. Something about his voice reminds me of Little Richard and Prince. Pretty good music, on the pop/rock side. Check them out here.

SIGHT: Snoop Dogg (feat. Kid Cudi) – That Tree

I don’t know if I have spoken yet on how much I find Kid Cudi so adorable and find his music to be pretty great too. I think he’ll be around for quite some time….well as long as he quits threatening to quit. I also love Snoop. I still remember when he first came out with the twists, plaid gear and that smooth Cali accent of his, just couldn’t help but love the man. Apparently he has just released a new album called More Malice and there is a track on there with Kid Cudi called That Tree. I honestly hadn’t even heard one track off the album yet but after watching this video, it definitely made me want to go check it out.

Fleet Foxes

I really like folk music. I feel like we forget about that genre, among many others, many a times. There are some really beautiful folk singers and well-written songs. While doing some folk music hunting, ( I am actually looking for instrumentals…for free ideally…that I can DL but if it costs, I’d still get it, so if you know of where I can get one let me know!) Anyways, here is this indie folk band I came across called Fleet Foxes. They have beautiful voices, harmonizing all up and down this one song called Blue Ridge Mountains in the video below. They have plenty other songs and have had two albums released since 2006, describing their style as not just folk but more of ” baroque harmonic pop jams”. They are really quite good, play instruments, and with those angelic voices of theirs, definitely can’t lose. Take a look at this video for yourself:

Theo Parrish

Theo Parrish is a house/electronica dj born in DC, grew up in Chicago and went on to make his name out in Detroit. He is currently signed to british indie label, Peacefrog Records, (same one as Little Dragon). The DMV was blessed with his presence this past weekend as part of the EightyEight DC‘s Forward Festival, a five-night electronic music events showcase here in the DMV. The spot was at the T&T up on Georgia Ave, a surprisingly spacious spot with two floors and really great sound when the music is thumping throughout the entire place. Usually when places are too big or awkwardly shaped or maybe just not as polished, they tend to have really poor sound quality inside, but this place was just great. You could feel each thump of the bass as it drummed out your heartbeat throughout each track. I even loved how I could feel it through my feet a little…or maybe that was a result of me and everyone else around me jumping around and dancing the entire night away. Also, there are very few DJs who actually get into their set and dance with you as if they really are pouring their entire soul and being into the moment and each track. Luckily, Parrish is one of those few and because of his high energy it made me that much into it as my energy was weening at around 2am. Also it helped that DJ Trus’me opened for him upstairs and Nightcrawler had the downstairs on lock the entire night. It was a win-win situation no matter what part of the place you decided to spend your entire night. An overall great night and honestly, I am really quite excited with how my spring/summer of 2010 is starting off thus far.

So go check out Parrish’s music here and  stay tuned and keep checking back for more posts and few announcements along the way with where I am taking SHADE and what other new projects I am cooking up.
