Mid City Artists is holding an Open Studios that is free and open to the public. It is a twice-yearly event that draws hundreds to the Mid City area in the heart of DC. Monday, 2/22

Free Film Screening and Discussion of SOLD: Fighting the New Global Slave Trade from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Tuesday, 2/23

Up and Up’s Open Mic Night at Liv. Presented by a group of talented  individuals from the DMV area. This open mic event occurs every Tuesday with happy hour starting at 6pm. The House Band is Mambo Sauce and there is a collaboration of music, comedy, and poetry that is showcased throughout the night. More info here.

Wednesday, 2/24

Free Classical Concert at the National Gallery of Art at 12:10pm. Music by African American composers and being presented in honor of African American History Month. The musical showcase is going to be in the West Building Ground Floor, Lecture Hall. For more info go here.

Thursday, 2/25

AFROBEAT THURSDAYS: Monthly party held at Bossa Lounge in Adams Morgan. Downstairs live performance by Elikeh and upstairs DJ Underdog spins nothing but records. (Check out my past reviews of it here).

Friday 2/26

IndiVisible: African-Native American Lives in the Americas. An ongoing exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian focusing on the lives of people of dual African American and Native American ancestry. Museum is open from 10am-5pm. More info here.

Saturday, 2/27

National Geographic Presents…Global Glimpses Series Showing all Foreign Film nominees for this year’s Oscars in the Grosvenor Auditorium. A 5-film pass is $35 and single tickets are $8. Event starts at 7pm. For more info go here.

The African Presence in Mexico: From Yanga to the Present is an exhibit at the Anacostia Museum. Exhibit showcases the history and strong African presence in Mexican culture. For more info go here.
