I am writing to express my gratitude for a well written article that captured the wonderful moments of our batizado. Just wanted to quickly clarify a few things.

I moved to the US in 1989, but went to middle school and high school here before going to URI.
I started my first capoeira club at CLASSICAL HIGH SCHOOL in Providence RI.

Graduados (who wear back in our school) - are the advanced students. We are not trying to alter the traditions of capoeira. Rather we are trying to create some sub-traditions within our own group that will aid us in the process of sharing with our group members our mission statement and our goals for our group.

Joda -- is in fact RODA. It is pronounced Joda, however.

I am not fully responsible for the work in VA. I am the supervisor. Selo is the responsible person. As I have a mestre (my instructor) who supervises my work, I supervise Selos who is now officially a MONITOR (an apprentice instructor).

One other thing that I would like to mention. Grupo Ondas' capoeira curriculum is directly from from MANDINGUEIROS DOS PALMARES... which is a group a little over 30 years old, created by my instructor - mestre Chuvisco from Boston, MA (born in Minas Gerais, Brasil). In totally, we belong to a family that has almost 1000 members (or perhaps more).

Again - I am very impressed by the work you have done in this article. It was a lot of information to synthesize in a short period of time, and you did GREAT!!!!

Congrats.
